Home stereo CD/MP3-player

Since May 1998, this selfmade apparatus is part of my hifi set. It is a CD player with integrated MPEG audio decoder for playing compressed bitstreams from CD-ROM. The interior consists of standard PC components mainly. Not very exciting really, but practicable.
You can purchase a DIY-kit including a backlit LCD (2x16 characters), software and instructions. The price is 15 EUR including postage within Germany.

Here are some technical details:

A few pictures:

Front panel with the glass plate removed. Illumination is done by 12-Volt-bulbs. The current key assignment is displayed on the lower LCD line.

Apart from the audio outlet, an AT-bus-slot for the "graphical diagnostics adapter" (VGA-board) and a serial port are located at the rear.

View on the "high density" interior. The mainboard is located on the bottom, occupying most of the area to the right side of the power supply unit.

In order to mount the sound board horizontally, a bus adapter (as found in some old slimline style desktop computer cases) is required.
